John Kearney, a trial attorney who represents some of the nation's leading companies in their most significant litigation issues, has become managing partner of Ballard Spahr's Cherry Hill office effective July 1. He succeeds Steven Suflas, who will join the firm's Denver office as its managing partner and will lead the expansion of Ballard Spahr's labor and employment practice in the West. Kearney, who joined the firm a decade ago, represents clients in matters involving toxic torts, environmental litigation, class actions, product liability, and commercial litigation. In addition to his trial experience, he has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation. He is past chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Product Liability and Toxic Tort Section, past co-chair of the Environmental Law Committee of the Camden County Bar Association, and a current trustee of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey. He also serves as an arbitrator in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and as a New Jersey Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Robert Fodera has been elected a partner of Thomas, Thomas & Hafer. He heads the firm's Hampton office. His areas of concentration are general liability and insurance defense. He was previously with Gebhardt & Kiefer in Clinton. He received his undergraduate degree from Pace University, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences (B.A.,1988), his Master's Degree in Public Administration (M.P.A., 1990) from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark (J.D., 1997). He is a member of the Hunterdon County Bar Association and the Lehigh County (Pa.) Bar Association.
Andrew Mackerer, a taxation and estate and probate attorney, has opened his own firm in Moorestown. Mackerer drafts complex estate planning documents designed to minimize income taxes, gift taxes and estate taxes, prepares business succession plans and represents clients in tax matters. In addition to preparing wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, and health-care directives, he also represents clients in probate and guardianship proceedings. Mackerer earned a Masters of Law in taxation and holds a certificate in estate planning. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Arlene Quiñones Perez, a partner at DeCotiis, FitzPatrick & Cole in Teaneck, has been appointed the city attorney of the city of Perth Amboy by Mayor Wilda Diaz. She is the first woman and first Latina to hold that position. Perez is also vice president of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey for the Northern region...William Watkins, chief operating officer of Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper in Westfield, has been named chairman of the advisory board for LEGUS, an international network of leading mid-sized law firms with more than 2,500 attorney members.
